Fiberon Composite Deck Build in Aurora
A worn wood deck in Aurora torn out and replaced with a low-maintenance composite deck: Fiberon decking in Cabin on a new pressure-treated frame, with matching composite fascia and steps.

The old deck
This Aurora backyard had a small, aging pressure-treated deck off the patio doors: picket railings, lattice privacy screens, a BBQ corner and a finish that had gone orange and tired. It still stood, but the boards were worn, the layout was cramped, and the homeowners were done with sanding and restaining a deck every few years. They wanted a bigger platform deck, low to the ground, that would look the same in ten years as it did on day one. That pointed to a composite deck rather than another wood one.
Demolition and site prep
We took the old deck down to nothing — decking, railings, lattice, frame and footings — and hauled it away. The during photo shows the cleared site: bare ground, the stone drainage bed uncovered, and the ledger line on the brick where the new frame would attach. Starting from scratch let us set the new deck exactly where it should be, at the height of the patio door sill, and make it larger than the one it replaced.
A new pressure-treated frame
Composite decking is only as good as what is under it. We built a new pressure-treated frame with joists spaced for composite boards, which flex more than wood and need tighter joist spacing to stay solid underfoot. The frame is set on proper footings, flashed at the house and left with clearance to the ground so it stays dry. The decking brand gets the attention, but the frame is what decides whether a deck is still level and squeak-free a decade on.
Fiberon composite decking in Cabin
For the surface the homeowners chose Fiberon composite decking in the colour Cabin — a warm, medium brown with a realistic wood-grain emboss that works with the orange brick of the house. Fiberon boards are capped composite: a dense core wrapped in a protective shell that resists fading, staining and scratching, so there is no staining, sealing or sanding, ever. Cleaning is soap and water. We ran the boards parallel to the house and wrapped the whole platform in matching composite fascia so no framing shows from the yard.
Steps and finish
Because the deck sits a couple of feet above grade, we built a wide two-step stair in the same Fiberon boards with closed composite risers, so the stair reads as part of the deck rather than an add-on. Everything is screwed down with colour-matched composite fasteners for a clean face. The homeowners' string lights and awning went straight back up over the new deck.
The result
A clean, larger, maintenance-free composite deck at the door height, finished in Fiberon Cabin, on a frame built to carry it for decades. No more restaining — just a rinse in the spring.
