Fence Restored & Two New Gates Built in Brampton
A grey, weathered wood fence with a pergola arbour over the side gate in Brampton. We built and hung two new arched wood gates, then cleaned, pressure washed, sanded and stained the fence, gates and pergola in a rich brown so the whole entrance matches.

The fence: grey, mossy and gates that had given up
This Brampton home has a nice detail at the side yard: a wood pergola arbour over a double gate, set into a privacy fence that runs along the house and out to the street. Years without a finish had turned all of it silver-grey, with moss on the pergola beams and dark water stains on the fence boards. The two old gates were in the worst shape, warped and sagging on their hinges, one with a small window frame that was coming apart. They had to be replaced, and the rest of the fence needed to look like it belonged with them.
Two new wood gates
We removed the old gates and built two new wood gates to fit the opening under the pergola, with arched tops that echo the curved fence panels on either side, a ring latch and heavy-duty hinges. New gates hung square and swinging freely change how the whole entrance feels. Building and fitting gates is part of our wood fence work.
Wood cleaner, pressure washing and sanding
Grey fence wood has to be brought back before it will take stain evenly. We applied a wood cleaner to the fence panels, posts and pergola to lift the grey and the mildew, pressure washed it off, then sanded the surfaces so the stain would soak in rather than sit on loose fibres. The new gates were sanded at the same time so the colour would match from the first coat.
Brown stain on the fence, gates and pergola
Everything was finished in a rich brown exterior stain: the fence boards, posts, caps, the new gates and the pergola beams and rafter tails. The after photo shows the result, one continuous colour from the house wall to the corner post, with the new arched gates reading as part of the original design instead of an add-on.
The result
From a grey, sagging side entrance to a finished gateway with two new gates and a restored pergola. The stain protects the wood from UV and moisture, and the next maintenance coat goes on after a simple wash.
