Large Weathered Deck Sanded & Stained in Etobicoke
A large backyard deck in Etobicoke covering almost the whole yard, wrapped around a walkout stairwell with a glass railing. The old finish had worn away and the boards were weathered and stained. We sanded the full deck back to fresh wood and refinished it in an even warm brown stain.

The deck: big, weathered and patchy
This deck fills most of the backyard of an Etobicoke home and wraps around a walkout basement stairwell, which is guarded by a wood-framed glass railing. Years of sun and rain had worn away the old finish: the boards were dried out and patchy, with grey weathered areas, dark water marks and mildew spots where leaves had sat. On a deck this size, uneven colour is very noticeable.
Sanding a large deck evenly
We sanded the entire deck surface, including the boards around the stairwell and the glass railing frame, to remove the worn finish, weathered fibres and stains. On a large deck the key is consistency: every board needs the same level of sanding, or the stain will take differently from one area to the next. The sanded photo shows the whole surface back to clean, fresh wood.
Warm brown penetrating stain
We then stained the whole deck and the railing frame in a warm medium brown. A penetrating stain soaks into the wood rather than forming a film, so it will not peel. It evens out the colour across such a large area, shows the grain, and pairs well with the red brick of the house. The finished deck reads as one clean, continuous surface instead of a patchwork.
The result
A large outdoor space that looks cared for again, with an even, rich colour from the house to the edge of the yard and protection against UV and moisture.
