Weathered Lattice Fence and Gate Restored in Oakville
A long cedar privacy fence with a lattice top, horizontal-board screens and a gate around an Oakville home, faded and weathered unevenly. We cleaned it with wood cleaner, power washed it, sanded it and stained the whole fence and gate in a warm cedar tone.
The fence: weathered and uneven
This long cedar privacy fence wraps around the side and back yard of an Oakville home, with a decorative lattice top, horizontal-board privacy screens either side of a walk-through gate, and board-on-board panels along the property line. The old finish had faded and weathered unevenly: dark, blotchy sections next to grey, sun-bleached boards, and the gate no longer matched the rest of the fence.
Wood cleaner and power washing
We started with a wood cleaner over the whole fence, lattice and gate to lift the dirt, mildew and old weathered finish, then power washed everything. Washing alone already brought much of the cedar colour back, as the washed photo shows.
Sanding and staining
Once the wood was dry we sanded the fence boards, posts, caps and gate to smooth out raised grain and even out the surface, then stained the entire fence, lattice, privacy screens and gate in a warm cedar tone. The colour brings out the grain and makes every section match, from the side gate to the back corner.
The result
A rich, even cedar fence that suits the home and the landscaping, protected from moisture and sun, with a finish that only needs a wash and a maintenance coat every few years.
