Cedar Deck Refinished in Cutek Ashwood in Vaughan
A custom cedar deck in Vaughan with a wide angled staircase between stone pillars, glass railings and an outdoor kitchen, its finish faded and weathered. We sanded the deck and stairs back to fresh cedar and refinished them in Cutek Extreme Ashwood.
The deck: a custom cedar deck that had lost its colour
This is a high-end cedar deck behind a Vaughan home: a wide, angled staircase flanked by natural stone pillars leads up from a flagstone patio to a deck with an outdoor kitchen, glass railings and cedar handrails. Over time the finish had faded and weathered, the treads had turned dull brown and grey with dark spots and mildew, and the deck no longer matched the quality of the stonework around it.
Sanding back to fresh cedar
To bring the cedar back, we sanded the deck boards, every stair tread and riser, and the angled stair edges back to clean, fresh wood. The sanded photo shows the bright cedar grain under the old weathered surface.
Cutek Extreme in Ashwood
We then finished the deck and stairs in Cutek Extreme, colour Ashwood. Cutek Extreme is a premium penetrating oil made for cedar and hardwood decks: it soaks deep into the wood instead of forming a film, so it cannot peel, and it helps protect the wood from moisture and the sun. The Ashwood tone brings out the warm cedar grain and sits beautifully next to the natural stone and the grey flagstone patio.
The result
A rich, warm cedar staircase and deck that finally match the stonework and outdoor kitchen, with a finish that is easy to maintain with a simple recoat.
