Cedar Deck and Sunroom Floor Restored in Whitby

The deck and sunroom: weathered cedar

This Whitby home has a cedar deck under a timber pergola, with stone pillars, a stainless cable railing and an angled picture-frame step down to the interlock patio, leading into a sunroom with its own cedar plank floor. Outside, the cedar boards had weathered silver-grey and dried out. Inside, the sunroom floor was worn and patchy, with faded traffic paths, darker sections and some damaged boards.

Replacing damaged cedar boards

We replaced the damaged boards with new cedar on the deck and in the sunroom, matching the width and layout of the original boards so the floor stays continuous.

Sanding the deck and sunroom floor

We then sanded both floors back to fresh cedar: the sunroom floor, the main deck surface, the picture-frame border and the step. The sanding photos show the bright, clean cedar grain under the old weathered surface, with the new and original boards blended together.

Natural cedar stain

Finally, we stained the deck and the sunroom floor in a natural cedar tone that brings out the grain and evens out the colour between new and original boards. The finished deck sits warmly under the pergola beside the stone pillars, and the sunroom floor glows in the afternoon light.

The result

A cedar deck and sunroom floor that look new again, protected from moisture and sun, with one consistent colour from the patio step into the sunroom.
