Carpeted Stairs Turned Into Oak Stairs in Brampton
A full staircase in a Brampton home covered in worn blue carpet, with turned oak spindles. We removed the carpet and converted the stairs to new solid oak treads with white painted risers and white square spindles, keeping the oak handrail and its volute.

The stairs: dated carpet
This straight staircase runs from the main floor to the second floor of a Brampton home, with an open railing on one side and a handrail ending in a classic oak volute at the bottom. The stairs were covered in worn blue carpet that looked dated next to the hardwood floor of the main level, with orange-toned turned oak spindles along the railing.
Carpet removal and new oak treads
We removed the carpet and padding from every step and installed new solid oak treads on each stair, including the bullnose edges that overhang the open side. The natural oak grain now flows from the bottom step to the landing and ties in with the hardwood on the main floor.
White risers and white spindles
Every riser was finished in crisp white, and the railing got white square spindles in place of the old turned oak ones. The oak handrail and the volute at the bottom were kept, so the stairs have a modern two-tone look: warm oak where you walk and hold on, clean white everywhere else.
Part of a full upstairs makeover
At the top of the stairs we also replaced the carpet in the upstairs hallway and bedrooms with luxury vinyl plank flooring. See that project: carpet to LVP in Brampton.
The result
A bright, modern staircase that is easier to clean than carpet, matches the floors and changes the whole look of the entrance.
