Raised Deck Resurfaced in Trex Composite in Woodbridge

A raised second-storey deck in Woodbridge with weathered, cracked pressure-treated boards and tired railings. We replaced the wood decking and stair treads with Trex composite, installed new wood railings and stained the railings and stairs to match.

The deck: weathered wood, high off the ground

This raised deck sits off the main floor at the back of a Woodbridge home, high above the patio, with a long staircase down to the yard. The pressure-treated deck boards had weathered grey and dark, with cracks, splits and blotchy worn stain, and the old wood railings were faded and dated. On a deck this high, the railings matter as much as the boards.

Trex composite deck boards and stair treads

We removed the old pressure-treated decking and installed Trex composite boards on the existing frame, and replaced every stair tread with matching composite as well, so the whole walking surface from the door to the yard is low-maintenance. Composite will not crack, split, splinter or rot, and it never needs sanding or staining, just an occasional wash. The wood-grain finish and mixed brown tones look natural against the brick, and it is a much safer, more comfortable surface to walk on barefoot than old weathered wood. See more about composite deck building and resurfacing.

New wood railings

We installed new wood railings around the deck: posts, top and bottom rails and pickets, built to Ontario Building Code height for a raised deck, with post bases fastened to the frame. See our railing installation service.

Staining the railings and stairs

The new railings, the stair railings and the stair stringers were then stained so the whole deck reads as one finished piece from the yard, with the wood tones complementing the composite floor and treads.

The result

A raised deck that looks new from above and below: a low-maintenance composite floor and stairs, sturdy new railings and a matching stained staircase.
